Semi Abstract Landscape

I really like to go back and revisit older paintings of mine. This was a painting created about 3 years into my first gallery/studio. I was using Venetian red, and Naples yellow a lot back then.

The monoliths, or the obelisks in my work were getting refined and shaping into what they are today, now that I look back at it. From 2000 to 2015 the ruins morph into more organic shapes. The edges on the obelisk become more curved and sexier as time has gone on.

With this piece I was simply trying to create a very peaceful, inspiring landscape. When I started, I had no idea what I was going to create other than it was going to be a landscape. So, in a way I had intention when I started, what the landscape was going to look like was purely consequential.

I think this painting bodies purity, and serenity at a level of acceptance that sooths me. I really like the calmness that it brings the viewer and the vast amount of space that it telegraphs. The title includes the word estate, which most of my work from that era did. The word estate in my titles alludes to the location of how my mind and soul conceived of this peace and how it is view simultaneously.
